  • General Note: This image was burned into the memory of Corporal Stephen Beatty. He was one of a small group of Canadian Volunteers who faced a large force of Irish-American Fenians who crossed the Niagara River in June of 1866. They invaded the small village of Fort Erie on the Niagara Frontier in Canada West. A dramatic fight played out along the streets and docks. Corporal Stephen Beatty was the only man who fought on the streets of Fort Erie that day to write a memoire of his experiences. This is his story.
