Howard Belsey is an Englishman teaching at a New England college. After he has an affair with a colleague, his oldest son, Jerome, goes to England works for Monty Kipps, a Trinidadian right-wing academic and pundit. Jerome falls for Kipps' daughter and their short-lived romance brings the Belsey and Kipps families together.
