After an earthquake hit Haiti in January 2010, Toronto Star reporter Catherine Porter found her first story moments after arriving in the earthquake's aftermath. A two-year-old girl named Lovely had survived six days under the debris and she was eventually reunited with her family. Catherine decided to enroll Lovely in school and to pay for it with money she and her Toronto Star readers donated. Over the next five years, Catherine continued to support Lovely and her family financially and she learned that although she couldn't fix every problem in Lovely's life, she could provide her with hope.
